The coins of our great-grandparents. Paper money of necessity in Italy since the second half of the nineteenth century.
The Antica Zecca Foundation of Lucca returns to the memory of our origins and does so with an exhibition created thanks to Intesa Sanpaolo, which loaned specimens from its paper money collection entrusted to the Ivan Bruschi Foundation of Arezzo.
The exhibition is curated by Prof. Franca Maria Vanni, consultant of the numismatic section of the Bruschi Foundation.
The exhibition itinerary, from 4 October 2024 to 31 August 2025, unfolds in five showcases and begins with the legal tender metal coins which, alongside paper vouchers, circulated in the Kingdom of Italy in the decade 1866-1876. Below are the Italian fiduciary notes divided by city of issue. Next to each of them the purchasing power is indicated, i.e. what it was possible to buy with this voucher, demonstrated by material objects or documentation.
There is also a selection of trust notes issued in many European states in the period 1917-1937. Also on display is a series of mini checks produced in Italy in the 1970s belonging to a private collection. The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday from 9.30am / 12.30pm - 2.00pm / 5.00pm and on the museum's opening weekends according to the calendar downloadable on the museum's website, or, even at different times, upon reservation .
Inauguration on Friday 4 October at 2pm. Antica Zecca Foundation of Lucca biancadilucca.it Tel. 0583 582320 - info@zeccadilucca.it
