On Saturday 21 September, the exhibition MARCELLO L'ANTIDIVE DI SUCCESSO opens to the public at Palazzo Pfanner, Lucca, curated by Alessandro Orsucci, created on the occasion of the Lucca Film Festival, scheduled from 21 to 29 September 2024.
The exhibition is a tribute to one of the most famous Italian actors in the world, Marcello Mastroianni, whose centenary of his birth is celebrated this year (28 September 1924), extraordinary interpreter of some of Federico Fellini's masterpieces such as La Dolce Vita and 8 and a half, the first two films shot together, which changed the history of cinema and made Marcello an international star.
The son of artisans, he was a shy, kind and simple man, not inclined to stardom, "a successful anti-star". His natural beauty and charm captivated the female public, even though he hated being considered a "Latin lover". He is the most awarded Italian actor ever, in over fifty years of career, initially shaped in the theatre, he has taken part in more than 140 films, playing always different roles with great versatility, and has worked with the best directors including De Sica, Visconti, Monicelli, Germi, Risi, Scola, Antonioni and finally Fellini, who made him immortal, and to whom he was linked by a deep friendship. “The quality I appreciate most about Marcello as an actor – says Fellini in an interview – is his total confidence, his total trust in those who direct him”. “He is the director with whom it is easiest to work – Mastroianni said of Fellini – with him it is truly a game.” MORE INFO
