Corpus Domini (Latin for “body of Christ”) is a celebration in the Roman Catholic Church, also called Corpus Christi. The festivities take place 60 days past Easter (but if the date doesn’t land on a Sunday it’s celebrated on the following Sunday). Corpus Domini/Christi celebrates the body and blood of Jesus Christ through the Eucharist (a.k.a. Holy Communion).
Many communities celebrate Corpus Domini with the 'Infiorata', a unique artistic display where streets are adorned with elaborate floral carpets. This tradition is hundreds of years old and shows the country's deep-rooted connection to art, religion, and community.
The nearest Infiorata takes place in the historic center of Camaiore.
A magical night that unbreakable ties tradition, art and culture. Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June in the Historic Centre in Camaiore the ephemeral wonder of the Flower Carpets: The 17th creations of the Carpet Masters that, this year, will celebrate the connection between faith and music, ideally participating in the celebrations of the centenary since the death of Giacomo Puccini.
The carpets will only be admired for a few hours, before they are destroyed the morning after the procession of the faithful on Corpus Domini. Hence the incredible value of the ephemeral: it is the fascinating spectacle of what is born and dies in the span of a few hours, allowing it to be lived, like a charm, only in a single and unrepeatable night. An unmissable appointment, an emotion to be experienced. MORE INFO
