This year we celebrate the 100the Anniversary of the death of maestro Giacomo Puccini and the 70th year of the Puccini Festival.
19 July: Le Willis - Edgar
Puccini's "Le Willis - Edgar" diptych will be performed on the occasion of the 70th Puccini Festival 2024 in Torre del Lago.
Back on stage in Torre del Lago - Le Willis was last performed here in 2019 - the new production sees direction, sets and costumes designed by Pier Luigi Pizzi while the Torre del Lago podium welcomes Massimo Zanetti for the first time.
The story of "The Willis" is taken from Nordic legends in which ruthless otherworldly creatures avenge the souls of girls who died for love. The Willises seduce young people to drag them with them into the depths of the sea.
In "Edgar" the libretto is by Ferdinando Fontana, against the backdrop of medieval Flanders, it narrates the tormented love affair of Edgar ensnared by the femme fatale Tigrana for whom he leaves the sweet Fidelia. He will be redeemed only in the tragic ending.
