Procession of the Penitents

All brothers and sisters (including minors under the age of 16 if accompanied by parents) are invited to participate in the penitential procession on Good Friday, in the liturgical action in the cathedral and in the via crucis which starting from our headquarters will wind towards the church of S. Frediano, where it will end with the veneration of the relic of the Precious Blood. MORE INFO

Departure at 4.30pm from the Historic Site (Piazza San Salvatore) with the following route:

Piazza S.Salvatore → Via Buia → via S.Andrea (stop at the crucifix, prayer and recitation of the vexilla regis) → via S.Anastasio (stop at the Church of S.Giulia) → Piazza Bernardini → Via Roma → Via Cenami (stop to the Church of S.Giusto) → piazza XX Settembre → Via Beccheria → piazza San Michele (stop at the Church of S.Michele) → via Calderia → piazza S.Salvatore, return to the Church.

† Liturgical action in the Cathedral at: 6.30pm

Departure from the venue at 6.10pm with the following route:

Piazza S.Salvatore → Via Buia → Via S.Andrea → Via Fatinelli → P.zza Bernardini → Via delle Trombe → piazza S.Martino, (stop until the end of the ceremony then departure for the Via Crucis).

In the Cathedral the Crucifix will remain covered during the liturgical action.

8.15pm (at the end of the Liturgical Action) with the following route:

P.zza S.Martino → P.zza S.Giovanni → Via del Duomo → Chiesa S.Giusto (prayer stop) → P.zza XX Settembre → Via Cenami → ChiesaSan Michele (prayer stop) → Via Calderia → Church of San Salvatore in Mustolio (prayer stop) → Via Cesare Bsttisti → Piazza San Frediano (meditation stop on Piazza San Frediano) entrance to the basilica where the relic of the precious blood will be exhibited. This is followed by a moment of prayer and homily by the Archbishop, followed by the blessing and repositioning of the relic.
