GIUNGLA in 2024 questions itself about the ROOT and its drifts of meaning, calling artists and researchers to express themselves. Today, perhaps more than yesterday, finding a balance between attachment to one's land and one's traditions, and the desire to migrate, to break with one's past to build a (better?) future elsewhere is increasingly stronger everywhere in the world . Added to the migratory flows of people fleeing conditions of poverty and war are expats, remote workers, those who wanted to break with their routine, quit their jobs and live in other countries and cultures. Lucca continues to be among the provinces with the highest rate of emigrants in Tuscany, second to Florence. On the other hand, finding a balance between being rooted and radical, between tradition and innovation, between fixity and openness to change, raises questions related to the acceptance of what is different, to the translation of past themes with the perspective of today. Just think of the generational gap that seems increasingly wide and the inability to understand the world of young people that has developed with a technology that millennials already struggle to understand. GUNGLA Radicale therefore wants to question issues ranging from migration to the digital divide, from artisanal practices to the artistic ones of the present.
For this 5th edition, the festival develops initially as an exhibition at the Mercato del Carmine in Lucca, from 3 to 5 May, and then continues in stages until November 2024 with other activities.
