April 7th, an important anniversary for the city of Lucca celebrates the liberation from the Pisan yoke and for this occasion the Contrade di San Paolino have organized an entire week of cultural and historical events for the sixth edition of the Challenge of Freedom. Concerts, exhibitions, crafts and a crossbow competition

Freedom Week 2024 program:

Tuesday 2 April at 9.15pm: Conference “From the Pisan yoke to freedom” by prof. Alessio Pisani

Wednesday 3 April at 9.15pm: Concert of medieval period music with contextual introduction by the Musikantika Duo

Thursday 4 April 3.30pm-7.30pm: Exhibition of crossbows and medieval crafts

Friday 5 April 3.30pm-7.30pm: Exhibition of crossbows and medieval crafts

Saturday 6 April at 3.30 pm: Conference "Middle Ages on the Head" by the teacher and historian Sara Paci Piccolo

Sunday 7 April at 3.30pm: VI Challenge of Freedom All events will be held at the headquarters of the Contrade while the Challenge will be held on the Bastion of S. Paolino.

On April 7th at 3.30pm the companies of crossbowmen from all over Italy and who are part of the LITAB will compete in a team and individual dogwood competition with the bench crossbow. We hope many of you will come.
